the paintings of mia stuesser

Mia Stuesser was born in 1966 in San Antonio, Texas.  As a child she was influenced by the creativity of her mother, as she would sit and watch her paint landscapes.  This was part of her first recollections of witnessing the artist at work and the creative process unfolding. Her fascination with this led her to pursue art classes in the summers and enroll in art classes throughout her early education. She then went on to study Commercial Art and received her BFA from Southwest Texas State University. Later she discovered that her passion for art and psychology would be brought together as she studied Expressive Arts Therapy and received her MA from Lesley University specializing in Art Therapy.

Mia has worked as an art therapist using art in the healing process with hundreds of emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and adolescents. As she worked therapeutically helping these individuals release traumatic experiences and feelings through art she was amazed at the creativity that flowed from such painful places. Her interest in the process encouraged her to enter her clients art work in a publication called "Childhood Revealed" which went on tour sponsored by New York University Child Study Program. During the past ten years Mia has recognized the power of creative expression and the impact it has on wellness. Along the way she has created images that reflect the self and has recently devoted her attention to observing and capturing life's beauty through photography and painting. Her technique's involve taking photos of nature and developing them into abstract, contemporary and realistic paintings that integrate imagination and life.

Love, wholeness, balance, depth, beauty, and innocence are a few words to describe what she strives for in her work and life.
